DISCOVERING THE NEXT LUXURY PRIVATE JET INTERIOR: PROJECT LXI WINNER—WOOJAE SOHN

THE SEARCH FOR THE ULTIMATE PRIVATE JET INTERIOR
With over 150 entries from design professionals, creatives, aviation enthusiasts and students, the Project LXi – Design the Ultimate Private Jet Interior contest sought to find the next concept to be featured in our iconic LXi Cabin Collection™. From takes on mid-century modern artistry to cultural immersions and aesthetic fusions, the submissions wowed our panel of judges with their dedication, creativity and innovation. Each custom interior in our LXi Cabin Collection is made to transport you well beyond your destination, so choosing a winner that embodied this direction was paramount.
After a committee of Flexjet creatives and executives narrowed entries down to the top 12, the public voted for their favorite six designs to be presented to our Chairman Kenn Ricci to select the grand prize winner. Then, our in-house team of engineers and designers took the six designs with the highest number of votes and created more precise visual renderings of them with Flexjet software. From there, all relevant materials were sourced to help bring these designs to life before Ricci finally chose a winner.
INSPIRED BY TRAVEL
A clear standout was Embry‑Riddle Aeronautical University student Woojae Sohn, whose design was inspired by family vacations in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Sohn worked closely with his father, a design director, collaborating every weekend and growing closer in the process. The concept is anchored in a tan, brown and cream interior that creates a calming, grounded energy in the space. Ricci selected the design largely due to the unique tufting of the couch and ottoman, as well as the wood grain of the table.
“Choosing the winner of Project LXi – Design the Ultimate Jet Interior was no easy task, but only one interior design incorporated nature, elegance and motion so gracefully,” Ricci wrote on his Instagram account.
When Ricci called to inform Sohn of his win, Ricci said “I want you to call your dad tonight and tell him we talked and we decided to name it Carolina and it’s our winner. You won $100,000!” Sohn’s immediate and palpable excitement was only amplified by the heartwarming familial victory. He shared with Ricci, “This contest created a stronger bond between me and my father.”
THE CRAFTING OF AN AIRCRAFT
Along with winning $100,000 and having his design featured in the LXi Cabin Collection, Sohn and his parents were flown from their home in Fort Lauderdale to the Flexjet Global Headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio on a Flexjet Gulfstream G650. Sohn met with Ricci to receive his $100,000 check, get a private tour of the Global Command Center and talk about his concept in a Flexjet design studio with our head of design, Ric Michaels. Here, Sohn had the opportunity to see larger renderings of his design and touch sample materials.
This was a wonderful moment for Sohn, first-year Aviation Business student and Air Force ROTC cadet, to get up-close experience with two of private aviation’s most influential professionals. The enthusiasm, talent and creativity in the room was tangible as they discussed, tweaked and refined Sohn’s design. Surrounded by materials and renderings, Sohn was delighted to make his mark on Flexjet’s iconic fleet.
