DESTINATION DOCKSIDE: THE 2024 NEWPORT INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW
September 25, 2024
The Newport International Boat Show (NIBS), one of the most prestigious boat shows in the United States, has a rich history that is emblematic of the evolution of the boating industry itself. It spans over fifteen acres and features six connecting sites that provide an immersive feel to this nautical showcase. With its picturesque coastal scenery, historic landmarks, charming inns, fashionable shops and top-notch dining options, Newport offers the perfect blend of boating and the splendor of New England in autumn.
Since its beginnings, the show has effectively balanced reverence for the past with an innovative approach to the future, making it an event that appeals to both traditional boating enthusiasts and those interested in the latest nautical technological advancements.
As proud co-sponsor of the show’s 53rd year, Flexjet returned to the Newport Harbor and Perry Mill Wharf to provide a delightful deviation from its watercraft-centric focus with the Sikorsky S-76 on full static display. See what made this year a success and what possibilities remain with Flexjet helicopters during this fall season.

Whether it’s sailing on a classic schooner, exploring historic seaports or simply strolling along windswept shores, the maritime traditions of New England hold a special place in the hearts of those drawn to the timeless allure of the sea.
What sets the NIBS apart from other similar shows is its unique perspective in showcasing the time-honored craftsmanship of classic boat design and powerboating alongside the cutting-edge innovations that are shaping the future of seafaring capability.
One of the most exciting features of this year’s show was the inclusion of a Flexjet helicopter display. Who says the yachting lifestyle can’t also include helicopters? There is a bold, yet completely logical relationship these concepts share. The presence at this year’s show further supported that use case.
Flexjet’s addition amongst the other exhibits elevated the overall experience by offering attendees a unique perspective on a classic lifestyle – one that rarely highlights the modes of travel en route to your favorite boating destination. Our helicopters provide transformative last-mile transport for Owners of Flexjet aircraft traveling from airports to their final destinations – enabling them to avoid lengthy local traffic delays.
It also can provide easy, comfortable access to additional locations within the region, such as entertainment and sports venues, golf courses, luxury spas and other destinations. In particular, the helicopter service will enable yacht owners to travel quickly from their jets to where their vessels are moored, which often are in less accessible areas.
“We have seen our helicopter service be utilized to aid in the planning of yachting excursions and even fishing tournaments. Helping discerning travelers maximize a window of time is an obvious benefit of this platform. It allows the end user to scout various locations of interest in a short amount of time and decide which of them are ideal for their purposes,” said Flexjet President of Helicopters, Eli Flint.
As an exciting extension of Flexjet’s innovative, flexible private travel access, fixed-wing Flexjet Owners in the U.S. and Europe can now seamlessly use their jet hours for our Sikorsky S-76 super-midsize helicopters.
MEETING THE SHIFTING WINDS OF WINTER
In the New England area, our fleet is conveniently based in Bridgeport, CT, and White Plains, New York, offering rapid dispatch to popular places like Newport, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard and other New England summer hotspots. However, as autumn is officially upon us, Flexjet Helicopters will begin to shift attention to Florida and The Bahamas for the upcoming winter season.
Over the past year, Flexjet has established an exclusive branded helipad on Rockwell Island, a luxurious mixed-use resort located on the stunning North Bimini Island in The Bahamas. With a mere 25-minute trip from Miami, you can indulge in the breathtaking beauty of Bimini, known for its crystal-clear turquoise waters and diverse marine life.
Additionally, Flexjet’s Sikorsky S-76 fleet can coordinate travel from the top of the Warren Henry Auto Group Parking Garage in North Miami to make trips in and out of Florida even more accessible. It is an ideal location that avoids larger areas of congestion in the greater South Beach area. It also provides a convenient hub for helicopter travel to downtown attractions or further afield to places like Key West, Bimini Island, or even north to Orlando. Overnight or extended parking is also available here for Flexjet passengers.
“This time of year provides us with a unique opportunity to remind those who may also spend time in Florida that we have also expanded our offerings greatly there,” said Flint. “Demand for our helicopter service is healthy and we are eager to talk with people who want to learn more about our unique differentiator.”
Currently, Flexjet Sikorsky S-76 super-midsize helicopters operate in the Northeastern United States, Florida, The Bahamas and London, United Kingdom.
