CHAPTER THREE: SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE – SPRING 2025
Founded in the 16th century, this sprawling village-turned-city played a significant role during the Mexican War of Independence; the preserved, sublime grandeur of its iconic neo-Gothic identity harkens a strong Spanish-imperial past. The city’s reputation as a global cultural stronghold is further underscored by its status as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2008, which recognizes its many impressive exploits of both architecture and artistry.

The journey began on a Thursday in classic and efficient Flexjet fashion. As aircraft Owners and guests arrived at Querétaro International Airport (MMQT), they were warmly greeted by Francisco Vanerio, Flexjet’s VP of Owner Experience. Guests were then escorted just a few steps away to a helicopter that would whisk them over the countryside directly to the city of San Miguel, where an awaiting car service would take them on a short remaining journey to the Rosewood.
Although not entirely off the beaten path, the journey to San Miguel de Allende typically involves several stages. Located approximately 90 minutes from the closest large airport, the city is situated in the central highlands of Mexico. It remains so well-preserved due to its somewhat remote location.
The weekend kicked off with a warm lobby reception featuring rounds of hibiscus water and other refreshments. Guests also enjoyed a Suki Palomino hat-making workshop while luggage was delivered to their quarters for their stay.
The stunning Rosewood estate beautifully blends colonial charm with modern elegance. Known for its breathtaking sunset views, exquisite hacienda-style suites and rejuvenating spa treatments, lush gardens and world-class cuisine make it an impressive way to experience the city.
After taking time to relax and refresh from their journey, guests attended a welcome dinner at nearby Instituto de Allende. This renowned art school has housed generations of influential and inspirational figures in the region. A tone-setting gathering took place beneath colorful frescos and impressive views of the iconic Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel.
OFFICIALLY BACK IN THE SADDLE
Compared to past iterations of the Chairman’s Club, San Miguel represents a departure from other resort locations—offering a decidedly more rustic approach to luxury and lifestyle. The weekend began with activities to help guests navigate the vibrant buzz of its city center. As the groups walked through cobblestone streets lined with bougainvillea, lively markets and engaging murals, guests learned about the fascinating tapestry that is San Miguel.
The second evening concluded with a memorable dinner at Quince, an exclusive rooftop restaurant experience that featured surreal acrobatics and live violin accompaniment.
Saturday saw guests curate their own adventure and even tap into their inner ‘vaquero’ with a unique horseback cantina crawl through downtown San Miguel. Local cervezas, tequila, mezcal wine and artisan rums were available for sampling whilst mingling and enjoying traditional mariachi bands in a few charming barrotes.
Guests enjoyed several self-guided and immersive experiences, including a hands-on painting workshop and wine tasting with talented local artisans, traditional Mexican boot-making, spirited walking tours, horseback excursions and even an exclusive tequila tasting at the esteemed courtyard of Casa Dragones.
The third Chairman’s Club journey culminated in a lavish fiesta infused with the spirit of Día de los Muertos. As fireworks illuminated the night sky, the celebration became a testament to the region’s exciting, rich cultural style and inherent sophistication—leaving lasting memories for all and a renewed appreciation for how travel can take you far from typical.
