TRANSATLANTIC FLYING WITH FLEXJET

June 8, 2023

Flexjet’s fleet is truly in a league of its own when it comes to longer flights, including those across the Atlantic. Both our super-midsize Praetor 600 and ultra-long-range Gulfstream G650 can cross the pond nonstop, in exceptional performance and style, with the Praetor 600 at the very top of its category when it comes to range.

Flying across the Atlantic

Outside of route pairings within Europe and EMEA, the most popular connections for our European fleet are between Europe and North America.

Separating the continents of Europe, Africa and Asia from the Americas, traversing the Atlantic Ocean has played a central role in exploration and globalisation throughout human history. For centuries, the ocean’s vast size (106.5 million km² or 20% of the world’s surface) necessitated a sea crossing of at least several weeks duration. However, since the middle of the 20th century – and following Charles A. Lindbergh’s pioneering nonstop flight in 1927 – transatlantic flight has become pivotal to business, trade and leisure.

Flights over the Atlantic are unique in several respects. Unlike point-to-point flights over land, a transatlantic flight must follow prescribed routes called North Atlantic tracks, which change position according to current weather conditions. Weather is a very significant consideration in operational planning for transatlantic flights, and flight durations are more variable than for routes that are predominantly over land.

How long does it take to fly across the Atlantic?

A flight between London and New York for example, can take anything between six and eight hours, depending on windspeed and weather conditions. An eastbound flight from North America to Europe is generally 30 – 40 minutes faster than flying in the other direction, due to the push factor of the strong westerly jet stream winds, particularly in winter and early spring.

Key transatlantic routes for private flights

With a maximum range of up to 7441km (or 4,000 nautical miles), our European fleet Praetor 600s can fly nonstop for up to eight hours, fulfilling popular transatlantic routes from Europe to U.S. east coast destinations, such as Dublin to New York; London to Washington DC; or Paris to Boston. At Flexjet we have also recently introduced the Praetor 600 in our U.S. fleet, which can operate longer flights within North America including coast-to-coast routes; currently our new U.S. Praetor 600s do not operate transatlantic flights.

The ultra-long-range Gulfstream G650 flies further still, and in Europe we offer nonstop flights of up to 14 hours in this aircraft type. This makes it capable of flying over halfway around the globe, including longer transatlantic flights such as London to San Francisco, or Zurich to Los Angeles.

Unparalleled comfort & service on transatlantic flights

On a longer flight, your comfort and cabin experience are paramount. With Flexjet, the hours slip by seamlessly in our spacious and meticulously appointed cabins, all featuring the latest technology and connectivity. This includes high speed Ka-band Wi-Fi and high-performance cabin pressure and air filtration, to reduce fatigue and jet lag.

Every flight on our European fleet also features a Flexjet Cabin Server, trained to take care of your every need. A longer flight time allows for a wide variety of onboard dining options including hot dishes and multi-course menus, all arranged to your specific preferences.

There is time to rest and recharge too, with all our aircraft offering very comfortable sleeping options, including fully-berthable seating. In the case of the Gulfstream G650 this even includes a private zone that can be configured as a master bedroom suite – so you can arrive refreshed after a longer flight.

Seamless flying, either side of the pond

Flexjet has well-established fleet operations on both sides of the Atlantic, which means our aircraft Owners can take additional advantage of our services after they have made the crossing – in either direction. Our flexible and innovative interchange programme allows our European Owners to utilise their flying hours on our U.S. fleet when they are travelling in North America, and vice versa for U.S. Owners travelling in Europe.
